Anthony Gordon injury update: Winger suffers ‘huge bruise around the hip’

Gordon was introduced after 74 minutes in England’s opening World Cup qualifier against Albania and suffered the injury late on which saw him limp down the tunnel at full-time.

The 24-year-old has since pulled out of the Three Lions squad so he can return to Newcastle for further assessment. Tuchel described the knock as ‘worrying’ after the game.

The latest update from the German arrived on Sunday when he revealed Gordon’s injury is so painful the winger can’t walk properly and needs appropriate time to recover.

“There’s a big bruise around the hip region and he’s unable to walk properly. He has a huge bruise around the hip region and it was so painful he couldn’t even walk properly.

“He needs some time to heal and to get better. That’s why he left camp.”

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday afternoon that the injury isn’t as serious as first feared following a scan on Saturday which yielded news that ‘wasn’t too bad.’

In 34 appearances for Newcastle this season, Gordon continues to be a huge player for the Magpies with nine goals and six assists along the way.

He scored in both legs of their EFL Cup semi-final victory over Arsenal, helping the club to win a first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
