Premier League leaders Arsenal are not working on a deal to sign ‘for sale’ Real Madrid star Rodrygo in January despite persistent links to the Brazilian.
Arsenal Not Working On Rodrygo Deal
Real Madrid star Rodrygo will not be joining Arsenal during the January transfer window.
The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian in the summer, however he opted to stay put at the Santiago Bernabeu to fight for his place in Xabi Alonso’s starting XI.
Despite showing strong determination to prove his doubters wrong, the 24-year-old has massively underwhelmed this term and has managed just three league starts under Alonso.
Additionally, he is yet to score a single goal in 2025/26. He has now gone 31 straight matches without a goal for Real, the worst goalless streak by an attacker in the club’s long history.
This has led to Rodrygo being listed for sale by the club ahead of the January window.

Los Blancos chiefs will reportedly entertain offers for the winger this winter, and for the right price, they will sanction his exit despite the player previously being considered ‘untransferable’.
Several Premier League sides are being linked with a potential swoop for the Santos academy graduate, with London duo Arsenal and Chelsea featuring prominently in transfer reports.
These links have since been put to bed, courtesy of football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
This is despite the fact that the Gunners are currently in the midst of somewhat of an injury crisis, with injuries to Rice and Mosquera being the latest concerns within their squad.
“Regarding the rumours, there is zero per cent truth in any story linking him with Chelsea. Forget it. There is nothing with Chelsea or Arsenal for January either.” Romano said.
“Arsenal are not working on a deal.”
He continued: “Could Rodrygo leave Real Madrid in 2026? Yes, it is a possibility if a good proposal arrives. Both the club and the player would consider it.
“Manchester City wanted him last summer.
“For now, Real Madrid hope for an internal solution, with Rodrygo breaking this bad moment and moving forward. If not, the situation will be open in 2026.”
Tottenham have also been heavily linked with a move, with previous reports suggesting that Rodrygo favours Arsenal over Spurs should he seal a switch to the English top-flight.
Could Manchester City Move for Rodrygo?
As mentioned by Romano, Manchester City tried moving for Rodrygo last summer.
Spanish outlet Fichajes report that City may move for the forward once again in January, with Pep Guardiola listing the out-of-form star as one of his ‘primary’ transfer targets.
The Catalan is keen on strengthening his attack and sees Rodrygo as an ideal addition.
According to the report, the Cityzens are willing to offer around âŹ80m (ÂŁ70m) to seal his signature, as they believe they can reignite his career and restore his former ‘world-class form’.
He would provide strong competition for the likes of Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, Rayan Cherki, Oscar Bobb and his compatriot Savinho, as City look to reclaim their Premier League crown.
Elsewhere, Liverpool, Spurs and Galatasaray are listed as his potential suitors.
