Farmingdale, New York will be rolling out the red carpet on Friday morning – as US President Donald Trump is expected to be heading to the Ryder Cup to cheer on the home side. But could the Trump visit to Bethpage mean a delay to the day one tee times?
Donald Trump Will Head To Ryder Cup Day One
Golf-loving US president Donald Trump will head to Bethpage Golf Course, in Farmingdale, New York on Friday 26th September as the 45th Ryder Cup tees off.
Fresh from his well-documented UN speech earlier this week, the US president has blanked out his Friday morning diary to give his support to the US team and captain Keegan Bradley as they try and win back the Ryder Cup.
With the 45th and 47th president expected at Bethpage on Friday morning – day one.
Europe are the current holders, having won in Italy in 2023. But the good news for the US team is that home sides have a good recent record – winning the last five Ryder Cups.
However, the last team to win away was Europe, when they defeated the US team in their own backyard at Medinah Country Club in 2012.
That year with a Ryder Cup correct score 14.5-13.5, which has been the most popular margin since 1979.
But spurred on by a Donald Trump visit to the Ryder Cup, the best golf betting sites are making the home side odds-on to lift the trophy on Sunday.
Will The Donald Trump Ryder Cup Visit Delay The Start?
The Ryder Cup format for 2025 will see the teams start on Friday with the foursomes – that are scheduled to tee-off at 07:10am ET, or 12:10pm BST.
There has been some threat of the Ryder Cup being postponed due to heavy rain in Bethpage.
But with the news that Donald Trump is expected at the Ryder Cup on day one – this is also leading to golf fans around the world wondering if the action might be delayed for another reason.
Of course, any Trump visit comes with a stack of security. Even more so these days after the failed assassination attempt in July 2024.
Which means Ryder Cup officials and Trump’s security team will be scrambling around on Thursday trying to tighten things up.
Plus, Trump has a history of delaying big sporting events.
Donald Trump Delayed The US Open Tennis Final
Only recently he attended the 2025 US Open tennis final in New York earlier this month. Which had to be delayed by 40 minutes due to him being there.
U.S. captain Keegan Bradley said “I think this … is going to be a sporting event to remember across any sport. When you add on the president of the United States standing there, I really think it’s going to be something that everyone will remember forever.”
Trump was also at a New York Yankees game back on Sept 11 to mark the 24-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the city.
Where he met with players before the game in the locker room.
But ahead of the Ryder Cup, US captain Keegan Bradley has said he’s not heard of any plans for the president to meet any of his golfers on Friday.
Bradley added – “I think President Trump is a pretty busy guy, I’m just thrilled he’s going to be here.”
Plus, if all goes well on Friday. There is even some talk of a return and Donald Trump presenting the Ryder Cup on Sunday.
Luke Donald “It Shows How Big The Ryder Cup Is”
While European captain Luke Donald said on the Donald Trump Ryder Cup visit,
“You’ve got to see that as a mark of respect, President Trump is obviously a big supporter of golf. He knows a lot of the players this week and has met them before.”
“It shows how big the Ryder Cup is.”
So, if history tells us anything a visit from the president to a sporting event will often come with added issues.
Which means a Ryder Cup delay to the tee times is very much possible.
Organisers have already told fans to arrive early on Friday, due to the added security measures.
It’s also believed they’ve pushed the Trump Friday visit back to not clash with the early 7:10am tee-times.
But his arrival later in the morning/day should still leave to disruption.
Regardless, if there is, or not. The US team will be hoping him dropping in will help them ‘Trump’ the Europeans.
While the visitors will equally be praying another ‘Donald’ can captain them to their first win on US soil since 2012.
