Retired fighter and former four-weight world champion Erik Morales has given his prediction for the Canelo vs Crawford super-fight next month.
As someone who knows what it takes to win big fights having defeated the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera, Morales’ opinion on fights is always highly respected.
Erik Morales Gives His Canelo vs Crawford Prediction
When it comes to boxing, Erik Morales is a man that has been there, done it and worn the t-shirt.
The Mexican fighter won his first world title at super-bantamweight, before winning his final world title at super-lightweight. Across his 61 fight career, ‘El Terrible’ amassed a record of 52-9, winning 36 fights via knockout too.
Although he lost nine times as a professional, eight of these defeats came in the last 13 fights of his career. At one stage, Morales was considered one of the best fighters on the planet at his prime.
Having shared the ring with a whole host of world class fighters and big names, it’s fair to say that Morales knows a think or two when it comes to boxing. With that in mind, he has weighed-in with his thoughts on the upcoming Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford mega-clash.
‘Canelo’ is the pre-fight favourite with boxing betting sites, but plenty of fans and boxing insiders feel that September 13 could be the crowning night for ‘Bud’ to become the first ever three-weight undisputed champion in boxing history.
Crawford is jumping up a further two weight divisions for this fight, having won world titles from lightweight to light-middleweight already. He is of course up against it, but should he win, he could become the pound-for-pound king of the sport.
Both Crawford and Canelo’s legacy is assured no matter what happens on this ‘Once In A Lifetime’ show at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13.
That being said, Erik Morales feels that Terence Crawford could actually have enough to defeat the great Mexican boxing phenom. Although not 100% confident in a ‘Bud’ win, Morales is edging towards the American to claim victory.
Erik Morales: ‘Crawford Could Take The Fight’
With Canelo’s next fight against Terence Crawford arguably the toughest of his career, many fans are backing the underdog to get the job done against the odds.
In order to overcome the odds, Crawford will need to also overcome a severe weight jump too. However, the task in hand certainly isn’t impossible. Alvarez hasn’t looked as good lately, with fans believing he is perhaps on his way down the mountain now.
Four-division world champion Erik Morales is one man who is giving the slight edge to ‘Bud’. Although not totally convincing in his assessment of the fight, the 48-year-old feels that if everything goes to plan, Crawford will get his hand raised on September 13:
“Crawford is the longer fighter. He has more speed, better technique. If things go as planned, Crawford could take the fight.” the retired four-weight world champion revealed.
With Morales backing ‘Bud’ to get the job done, he is in agreement with both Teddy Atlas’ and Roy Jones Jr’s Canelo vs Crawford prediction.
If Crawford gets his hand raised and extends his unbeaten record to 42-0, he will go down in history as the first ever three-weight undisputed champion in the four belt era. Not only that, but he will have also defeated one of the greatest fighters of the 21st century in ‘Canelo’.
Time will tell what happens on fight night, but an elite, highly skilled, enthralling affair is guaranteed. Whether or not Erik Morales’ Canelo vs Crawford prediction comes to fruition or not remains to be seen.
