Federico Chiesa is angling for a move back to former club Juventus during the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Reds forward has struggled for gametime under Arne Slot and wants to make amends with the Italian giants after his acrimonious departure in 2024.

Chiesa was an unused substitute in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Thursday, despite their lack of forward options.

With Hugo Ekitike absent with a hamstring injury, Alexander Isak out long-term and Mohamed Salah at AFCON, the Italian hasn’t been afforded an opportunity to stake his claim.

Chiesa has made 15 league appearances this season, but only one of those has come from the start.

Federico Chiesa eyes Juventus return

According to Tuttosport, the 28-year-old is open to a return to his former club and has spoken to figures within Juventus to determine whether a move is possible.

Chiesa left the club in the summer of 2024, sealing a move to Liverpool for a £10million fee plus add-ons.

He previously spent four years with Juventus, two of those being loan deals, and helped the club win the Coppa Italia on two occasions.

However, a contract dispute meant his relationship with club chiefs soured, and that further collapsed on the appointment of former boss Thiago Motta.

Motta was sacked in March and replaced by Igor Tudor, and the club currently sit in fourth, six points off Inter Milan at the top of the table.

Chiesa is also looking for a move to help with his bid to represent Italy at the World Cup if they can seal their place through the play-offs.

They take on Northern Ireland before facing the winner of Wales versus Bosnia.

A decision for Liverpool boss Arne Slot

It’s clear Reds boss Arne Slot sees little future for Chiesa, given he’s only managed 228 minutes of Premier League football this season.

However, with Liverpool fighting on three fronts, squad depth could prove vital.

He’ll likely start in the FA Cup clash with Barnsley on Monday, and Slot will wait until the end of the month before deciding on his future.

Despite the injuries, Liverpool’s priority remains bolstering their backline and remaining firmly in the chase for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Slot has already shut down the opportunity to bring Harvey Elliot back to Liverpool.

Liverpool scouts have been in attendance to watch RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, but the German side have told Premier League suitors they will need to pay around £86million to let him leave this winter.
