Over 300,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have sold Liverpool star Florian Wirtz after his unremarkable performance on Matchday 1.
Wirtz joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen for a British record fee of up to £116.5 million. Liverpool have committed to paying £100 million up front and another £16.5 million in add-ons.
The German attacking midfielder debuted on FPL with a base price of £8.5 million.
Florian Wirtz Had an Underwhelming Premier League Debut
Florian Wirtz made his Premier League debut on Friday, as Liverpool, who are 21/10 with UK betting sites to win the league, hosted Bournemouth. Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo scored to put Liverpool 2-0 up, but Bournemouth fought back with a brace from Antoine Semenyo.
In the closing minutes of the game, substitute Federico Chiesa and FPL’s most expensive player, Mohamed Salah, scored to seal a 4-2 win for the hosts.
Arne Slot kept Wirtz on the pitch until the 72nd minute. He had one shot, which went wide of the mark. He was dispossessed three times and lost seven of 10 duels. Wirtz, however, created three chances, won two tackles, and delivered four accurate long balls.

On paper, it certainly was not the worst debut performance, but FPL managers expected more from the Liverpool star.
Wirtz Becomes Most Sold FPL Player After Gameweek 1
Florian Wirtz picked up just two points on Matchday 1 of the Fantasy Premier League. A majority of FPL managers are not satisfied with the return. As a result, Wirtz has become the most sold FPL player after Gameweek 1, with 3,12,717 managers transferring him out. At the time of writing, he is the only FPL player who has been sold by over 300,000 managers.
Most Sold FPL Players After Gameweek 1
| Player Name (Club Name) | Cost | Sold By |
|---|---|---|
| Florian Wirtz (Liverpool) | £8.5m | 3,12,717 |
| Josko Gvardiol (Man City) | £6.0m | 2,91,621 |
| Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) | £4.5m | 2,85,262 |
| Alexander Isak (Newcastle) | £10.5m | 2,73,240 |
| Joao Pedro (Chelsea) | £7.5m | 2,28,883 |
| Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) | £8.0m | 2,08,475 |
| Jeremie Frimpong (Liverpool) | £6.0m | 1,95,907 |
| Omar Marmoush (Man City) | £8.5m | 1,89,555 |
| Cole Palmer (Chelsea) | £10.5m | 1,74,590 |
| Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) | £9.0m | 1,54,116 |
Josko Gvardiol is now the most-sold defender in FPL 2025/26, with over 290k managers selling him. This is due to the injury he is carrying, which kept him out of the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ezri Konsa, who rose to fame thanks to his £4.5 million price tag, is also on the list. Konsa saw a red card in the 0-0 draw with Newcastle United. He will sit out the game against Brentford on August 23.
Then, there is Alexander Isak, who reportedly wants to join Liverpool this summer. According to bookmakers, Isak’s transfer to Liverpool is a done deal, but the Reds have yet to finalise a transfer fee with Newcastle.
Eddie Howe did not pick Isak for the Premier League opener against Villa. There is little chance that he would bring him back for the meeting with Liverpool next week.
