Tom Aspinall Jon Jones

Jon Jones has continued to troll Tom Aspinall following the eye poke incident at UFC 321, turning up to the Dirty Boxing Championship 4 weigh-ins on a horse with an eye patch on.

Aspinall vs Gane was ruled a no contest after the challenger poked the eye of Aspinall in the UFC 321 main event with the Englishman unable to see out of one eye and experiencing blurred vision from the other.

Jon Jones Trolls Tom Aspinall With Eye Patch

Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall had their fair share of beef during the period where they were rumoured to be fighting each other for the UFC Heavyweight Title.

The fight obviously never materialised, with Jones instead retiring from MMA. This meant Aspinall was upgraded to the full champion, which he remains following the eye poke incident at UFC 321.

Tom Aspinall vs Ciryl Gane was halted in the very first round due to Gane poking Aspinall’s eyes with his fingers. The champion said he couldn’t see out of his right eye, which resulted in the fight being ruled a no contest.

Key Tom Aspinall stats proved he would beat Gane and make a successful first defence of his heavyweight belt, but instead the fight was a huge anti-climax due to the eye poke incident.

In the aftermath of the incident, everyone has had their say on the eye poke. UFC President Dana White was frustrated at the ending, and even revealed he thinks Aspinall simply didn’t want to continue rather than couldn’t continue.

Thousands of MMA fans also had their say on the eye poke, as did Aspinall’s foe Jones. Jones mocked Aspinall straight after the fight with Gane, with a video resurfacing on social media whereby Jones labelled Aspinall a quitter.

Jones continued this narrative following UFC 321, and even turned up to DBX4 in Nashville on a horse with an eye patch on. This eye patch stunt is of course mocking Aspinall, who himself posted on social media from the hospital earlier this week with an eye patch on.

Although it seems Jones vs Aspinall may never actually happen inside the UFC octagon, that won’t stop the pair from continuing to beef on social media and outside the cage.

Jones Trolls Aspinall With Social Media Profile Picture

Jon Jones’ latest trolling of Tom Aspinall at Dirty Boxing Championship 4 in Nashville, turning up on horseback with an eye patch on, isn’t the first time since UFC 321 that ‘Bones’ has ridiculed and trolled Aspinall.

Straight after Aspinall vs Gane was called a no contest at UFC 321, Jones instant changed his profile picture to a duck with an eye patch on.

Jones’ profile picture had previously been the duck with the UFC belt around it, which itself was trolling as Aspinall had turned up to a previous UFC event earlier this year with a rubber duck.

This time though, Jones added an eye patch to the duck in his social media profile picture as he continues to mock Aspinall further.

Will Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall Ever Happen?

When he retired, Jon Jones was #1 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings and the king of the heavyweight division. Not only that, but he was regarded as the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

Jones remains the G.O.A.T in many people’s eyes, but some feel he blatantly ducked a fight with Tom Aspinall.

Shortly after retiring, Jones revealed on social media that he was keen to return to the octagon and potentially headline UFC White House on June 14 once President Donald Trump announced the event would be happening.

Whether or not Dana White puts Jones on the UFC White House card remains to be seen. The likes of Conor McGregor, Alex Pereira, Ilia Topuria and a host of other fighters will all want to compete on the South Lawn, so Jones may be quite far down the pecking order.

If Jones does return to the octagon however, there is a chance that he would face Aspinall once and for all. That being said, Jones seems more concerned about a possible cage return to face the great Alex Pereira in a heavyweight match-up instead.

Aspinall broke his silence on Jones’ return revealing that he wasn’t one bit interested in facing ‘Bones’ due to their history and the frustration that came of their fight negotiations.

That being said, if there is enough money on the table, Jones vs Aspinall might happen. Should Jones make a serious return to competitive action in the octagon, then he may well be open to the idea of facing Aspinall for the UFC Heavyweight Title once and for all.

It remains to be seen whether or not Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall ever happens, but for now it feels like that fight is dead in the water and is the one that got away.
