Premier League champions Liverpool are set to hold direct talks with Italian champions Napoli over the mooted transfer of £50m-rated striker Darwin Nunez.
Liverpool and Napoli To Hold Direct Talks Over Darwin Nunez Deal
Napoli are set to make direct contact with Liverpool over the transfer of Darwin Nunez.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Serie A champions will hold talks with the Reds on Tuesday to discuss the conditions of the Uruguayan’s prospective move.
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Understand Napoli and Liverpool will have direct contacts today to discuss conditions of Darwin Núñez deal.
“Negotiations still at early stages but Napoli had green light from Núñez as revealed in the recent days… and deal depends on financial requests now.”

The Athletic also report that the Premier League champions are looking to sell the forward and that the player himself is keen on an exit this summer.
Atletico Madrid and AC Milan have been credited with interest in Nunez too. There has also been interest from Saudi Arabia. However, Napoli’s interest seems most concrete.
According to reports, Liverpool are holding out for around £50m to sell the striker.
It comes just months after the Reds rejected a £60m approach from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Nassr to sign the 26-year-old. The Saudi side then opted to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.
Nunez, who arrived from Benfica in 2022 for an initial £64.2m fee, has cut a frustrated figure throughout the majority of his spell at Anfield.
He has scored a total of 40 goals in 143 appearances for the Merseyside outfit and saw his game time reduced drastically upon the arrival of Arne Slot last summer.
Throughout the 2024-25 campaign, Nunez made just eight Premier League starts.
A transfer seems to be the best option for all parties, with a move to the Italian champions looking likeliest at this current moment.
Liverpool Transfer News: Chiesa and Robertson Linked With Exits
The Reds have conducted some impressive business since the transfer window opened, having secured the signings of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, while they have also agreed a £40m deal to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
After announcing the arrival of Kerkez, Liverpool are expected to cool their activity in the market.
If Nunez does depart though, they may look to acquire a direct replacement. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak have been named as potential targets.
On the way out of the door, meanwhile, Jarell Quansah is set to join Bayer Leverkusen for £34m. His move won’t be completed until after he has returned from international duty, however.
Additionally, both Andy Robertson and Federico Chiesa have also been linked with exits.
Scotland international Robertson has drawn interest from Atletico Madrid. According to reports, he is currently mulling over his future while away on holiday with his family in the Algarve.
As for Chiesa, he has been linked with a return to his homeland, with several Serie A sides reported to be interested. Among them are Napoli, AC Milan and Atalanta.
The Reds are set to report for pre-season training on 7 July ahead of their first friendly of the summer against Preston North End six days later on 13 July.
