Manchester City have announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan on a five-year deal. The 26-year-old Netherlands international joins for an initial fee of £46.5 million. Reijnders becomes City’s fourth signing of the summer in what has been a busy start to the window. Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri and Lyon winger Rayan Cherki have also made the switch to the Etihad. And yesterday, Manchester City signed former Fulham keeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea to replace veteran backup Scott Carson. Like the others, Reijnders arrives in time to be eligible for the upcoming Club World Cup. He said: “I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City. “City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. “Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.” Reijnders is seen by many as the successor to the outgoing Kevin de Bruyne. He played 54 times for Milan last season, scoring 15 goals to be named Serie A’s midfielder of the season. To date, he has 22 caps for the senior Netherlands side. Manchester City Transfers Arrive For Club World Cup Pep Guardiola has made it clear with his flurry of swift summer signings that City are taking the Club World Cup seriously. A total outlay of around £108 million on three new arrivals in Reijnders, Cherki and Ait-Nouri has seen them bolster their ranks significantly. All three, along with new reserve keeper Bettinelli, are available for the Club World Cup. The Club World Cup draw sees City in a group with Moroccan side Wydad AC, who they face first in Philadelphia on 18 June. They then take on Juventus and Arab side Al Ain to complete their Group G fixtures. De Bruyne is already gone, but the midfield trio of Kalvin Phillips, James McAtee and Jack Grealish are all expected to follow him out the door. According to reports, German side Bayer Leverkusen are lining up Jack Grealish as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz. And with a number of ageing stalwarts in the squad, such as Kyle Walker and Ilkay Gundogan, it is believed Pep will look to rejuvenate his squad further over the summer. How Will Tijjani Reijnders Play At Manchester City? Known as an imposing, box-to-box midfielder, Reijnders is a great acquisition for City. He will turn 27 next month, so is at the peak of his career and brings plenty of experience. Only one player, Napoli’s former Man United man Scott McTominay, ended the season with more Serie A goal involvements (16) from midfield. Despite AC Milan’s poor season, where they finished a lowly eighth, Reijnders was a shining light. He ranked highliy for forward passes and is known to carry the ball well from deep.
