Arsenal legend Paul Merson has warned Tottenham Hotspur as he predicted the score of their upcoming trip to Manchester City.Â
Pep Guardiola’s Man City opened their Premier League campaign with a 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Thomas Frank’s Spurs also enjoyed a big win on Matchday 1, beating Burnley 3-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Man City are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table. However, priced at 3/1, they are not the favourites with football betting sites to finish there.
Paul Merson Makes Man City vs Tottenham Score Prediction
Tottenham Hotspur were in complete control of their game against Burnley. They took 16 shots, tested the goalkeeper six times, completed 451 passes, enjoyed 67% possession, and scored three fine goals.
Despite their dominant showing against Burnley, Paul Merson is not convinced they would be able to beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Making the score prediction for Man City vs Tottenham, Merson wrote in his SportsKeeda column:
“This is the first real test of the new season for Manchester City and Tottenham. I remember Spurs went to the Etihad last season and destroyed City! A lot has changed at both clubs since then, and this game will be a good watch. I still think Tottenham are a work-in-progress. You can’t get carried away by the win against Burnley. I don’t see them getting well beaten by City though, that’s not happening under Thomas Frank.

“Erling Haaland looked sharp in the win over Wolves, and as long as he’s fit, City will always be in the title race. But I don’t fancy the wingers at Pep Guardiola’s disposal. I’m not a big fan of Jeremy Doku. I just think he does not make things happen often enough. When Phil Foden is ready, I expect him to come back into the team, and City’s front-three will look a lot stronger. I’m not as bullish as I was with my predictions in the past about this fixture. Frank will go there with a plan to stop City. I’m still backing Manchester City to win, but Spurs could have their moments.”
Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Man City vs Spurs Head-to-Head Stats
Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur stats also point towards a win for the hosts. Man City have beaten Spurs in nine of their last 15 Premier League meetings at the Etihad Stadium, losing just three times.
Spurs, however, came out on top the last time out, claiming a commanding 4-0 victory. They are also narrowly ahead of the Cityzens in overall head-to-head statistics, winning 65 games against them across all competitions, one more than City.
| Competition | Man City Wins |
Draws | Tottenham Wins |
| League | 58 | 33 | 57 |
| FA Cup | 4 | 2 | 3 |
| League Cup | 1 | 0 | 4 |
| Champions League | 1 | 0 | 1 |
