After accepting a British record-bid for Alexander Isak, Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford.
Liverpool, who are 6/4 with football betting sites to win the league, will pay a British and deadline day record £130 million fee to sign Isak from Newcastle.
Isak’s move comes days after the Magpies stated they did not expect anyone to meet their asking price for the Swedish striker.
Wissa Joins Newcastle as Liverpool Snatch Isak
On deadline day, Newcastle United struck a verbal agreement with Brentford for the transfer of Yoane Wissa. According to top journalist Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have agreed to pay £55 million for the 28-year-old attacker. Wissa unfollowed Brentford in August after they initially blocked his move to St. James’ Park.
Romano wrote:
“Yoane Wissa to Newcastle, here we go! Deal verbally agreed right now between the clubs.
“Fee worth £55m package. Brentford accept formal proposal from NUFC and Wissa on his way for medical later today.”

The move comes amidst Newcastle’s lacklustre start to the 2025/26 Premier League season. With Alexander Isak not participating, Eddie Howe’s side have dropped points in all three of their league games so far. They have lost 3-2 to Liverpool and played out goalless draws with Leeds United and Aston Villa.
How Wissa and Woltemade Could Fit in at Newcastle
Alexander Isak’s departure to Liverpool leaves a massive hole in Newcastle’s attack. They are trying to fill the hole with not one but two players.
Before agreeing a deal for Yoane Wissa, Newcastle United signed Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart for a club-record £69 million fee. The 6ft 6in striker was initially linked with Bayern Munich. But he ultimately chose to follow his countryman, Florian Wirtz, to the Premier League.

Between Wissa and Woltemade, Newcastle United are set to have an unorthodox but promising attack.
Yoane Wissa
Last season, Yoane Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals, with only Mohamed Salah scoring more non-penalty goals in the league. He demonstrated his coolness under pressure, scoring six goals from inside the box.
Wissa is a constant threat around the box, relentlessly putting pressure on the opposition. He also has the ability to pick out the right passes in the final third, which helped him rack up five assists last season.
Nick Woltemade
While Yoane Wissa is a tried and tested Premier League goalscorer, Nick Woltemade is a forward brimming with promise. The 23-year-old is a formidable presence inside the box, using his height to perfection to help his team. But what is even more impressive is his ability to carry the ball.
Stature and flair rarely go hand in hand, but Woltemade possesses both in abundance. The German has the quality to impact play as the creative fulcrum of the team.
Losing Isak vs Gaining Wissa and Woltemade
Alexander Isak is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, capable of scoring as well as creating. Liverpool believe he would improve their star-studded squad. So, it is safe to say that Newcastle are going to miss his quality in the final third.

However, that does not mean Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade are poor additions. Wissa’s finishing is a notch below Isak’s but his work rate and positional flexibility make him a valuable asset.
To top it off, Wissa rarely picks up injuries, with him missing only six games in the last three years. Isak, meanwhile has missed 39 Premier League games in the same period.
Woltemade is not as prolific as Wissa, but his creativity is the best of the lot. He is also still only developing, meaning Eddie Howe will have the opportunity to mould his game to his liking.
