Nottingham Forest Ipswich Preview

Ipswich take on fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday evening, and we’ve got the latest team news and predicted lineups included in our preview ahead of the action.

Nottingham Forest vs Ipswich Preview

Premier League duo Nottingham Forest and Ipswich go head-to-head in the final FA Cup fifth round fixture on Monday evening, with a trip to the Amex to take on Brighton awaiting the winner in the quarter-finals.

Forest come into this one off the back of a three-game winless run, having failed to record a victory since their penalty shootout triumph over League One strugglers Exeter City in the last round of the cup.

Last time out, they held Arsenal to a goalless stalemate in the East Midlands, maintaining their third place position in the English top-flight table, meanwhile Ipswich fell to a 3-2 defeat to 10-man Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Tractor Boys, who sit in 18th place in the table, are without a win in eight consecutive league matches. During that time though, they have recorded two victories in the cup, beating League One side Bristol Rovers 3-0 in the third round and Championship outfit Coventry 4-1 in the fourth round.

Monday’s clash will be the second time that Forest and Ipswich have met this term. November’s league meeting, also at the City Ground, ended 1-0 in favour of the Reds courtesy of a Chris Wood penalty.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Forest have just one injury concern heading into this one, with second-choice goalkeeper Carlos Miguel missing out after suffering a thigh injury in the win over Exeter in the fourth round.

As for the visitors, they are without Wes Burns (knee), Chiedozie Ogbene (Achilles), Omari Hutchinson (knee), Christian Walton (groin) and Julio Enciso (knee) due to their respective injury concerns.

Kalvin Phillips (calf), Conor Chaplin (knee) and Arijanet Muric (shoulder) are also doubts, and the trio face late fitness tests ahead of the trip to the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest vs Ipswich Prediction

The UK’s best football betting sites have Nottingham Forest as 8/13 favourites to advance to the quarter-finals with a win in regular time on Monday, while a draw is rated at 3/1 and a victory for the visitors is priced at 17/4.

We at SportsCasting expect a tightly contested affair on Trentside but agree with the bookmakers’ assessment, and are backing the hosts to claim a narrow 2-1 victory to advance in the competition.

Both sides are in rather poor form heading into the game, especially Ipswich, and recent meetings between the pair support our prediction, as Forest are unbeaten in four successive matches against the Tractor Boys.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-1 Ipswich
