West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves, all previously or currently being managed by Nuno Espirito Santo, could suffer relegation from the Premier League this season.
The Nuno Espirito Santo Relegation Treble
Is the Nuno Espirito Santo Premier League relegation treble on?
West Ham, currently managed by Nuno, and Nottingham Forest and Wolves, previously managed by Nuno, could be the three teams that suffer relegation from the top tier this season.
West Ham
The Hammers currently occupy 18th place in the Premier League table, four points from safety.
Relegation is a real threat for the East London outfit, with their record since Nuno’s arrival in late September standing at two wins, four draws and eight defeats across 14 league matches.
Their most recent outing, a shocking 3-0 defeat away at Wolves, extended their winless run in the division to nine straight matches – their worst run of results since the 2010-11 season.
In fact, the last time they went winless in nine successive matches, they were relegated. It came as they finished at the bottom of the English top-flight table during the 2010-11 campaign.
Unsurprisingly, pressure is mounting on Nuno as results continue to disappoint.
Reports suggest Nuno has one more game to save his job at the London Stadium, with West Ham welcoming fellow relegation battlers Nottingham Forest to the English capital on Tuesday.
Should they suffer defeat, there’s a real possibility that West Ham part ways with Nuno.
He currently tops the Premier League sack race odds market, while the Hammers are among the favourites to be demoted to the second tier in the Premier League relegation odds market.
Nottingham Forest
Nuno started the 2025-26 campaign as manager of Nottingham Forest.
Having led the club to European qualification last term, securing their spot in this season’s UEFA Europa League, the City Ground club parted ways with the Portuguese in September.
Since then, they have appointed and sacked former Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and are now being managed by ex-Burnley and Everton coach Sean Dyche.
Of the three ‘Nuno teams’, Forest are currently the least likely to be relegated.
They are currently in 17th place in the table, four points clear of the drop zone, but head into 2026 in poor form, having won just one of their last six Premier League matches.
Their most recent outing ended in a 3-1 defeat away at high-flying Aston Villa.
Should they seal all three points against West Ham in midweek, they will move seven points clear of the relegation zone – which would stand them in good stead for top-flight survival.
Defeat, however, throws them right back into the mix, as they’ll be just one point clear of the drop. Priced at 4/1 in the Premier League relegation odds market, they are expected to stay up.
Wolves
As for Wolves, perhaps Nuno’s most beloved former side, they are all but relegated.
The 51-year-old manager enjoyed a successful four years at the club between 2017 and 2021 before departing for Tottenham and is remembered fondly for his time at Molineux.
Since his departure though, the club have endured a steep decline in the top-flight.
Their victory over the Hammers at the weekend was their first league win of the 2025-26 season, as they currently sit bottom of the table with a dreadful tally of six points across 20 games.
Bookmakers have the Old Gold at around 1/40 to be relegated at the end of the campaign.
Rob Edwards’ side travel to Everton next on Wednesday night, where a victory would move them within nine points of safety if Nottingham Forest also suffer defeat to West Ham on Tuesday.
If they are able to turn things around and avoid relegation come the end of the season, it would likely be considered as one of the greatest escapes in Premier League history.
