Arsenal fans mock former Spurs star Ivan Perisic following PSV 7-1

PSV Eindhoven winger Ivan Perisic has fired shots at Arsenal ahead of their Champions League clash, questioning the Gunners’ ability to step up in crucial moments.

As the two teams prepare to face off in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie at the Philips Stadion, Perisic believes his side have a strong chance to upset the Premier League giants.

Perisic Questions Arsenal’s Mentality

Speaking in the buildup to Tuesday night’s match, Perisic, who previously played for Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham, suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled to find the winning mentality required for silverware.

“Arsenal often lacked that one bit to win something last year,” Perisic stated. “We have to be fully prepared, then we have a good chance to beat them.”

The Croatian winger acknowledged the talent within Arsenal’s ranks but emphasised his confidence in PSV’s ability to challenge them.

“It will be a tough game against a young team with a strong coach. But I believe in our team, and we have to play at our best. When you hear the Champions League anthem, it gives something special.”

PSV Form

Despite their confidence, PSV head into the match on the back of a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie.

Peter Bosz’s men have also struggled defensively, failing to keep a clean sheet in their last seven league matches.

However, their attacking quality remains a major weapon, having consistently found the net in every home game this season.

PSV notably got a win over Liverpool in the group stage and then overcame Juventus in the knockout playoff, proving their credentials against elite European competition.

Bosz has no plans to change his attacking approach against Arsenal. “I already indicated last year that defending starts with attacking,” he explained.

“We immediately put pressure on the ball, which allowed us to win it back quickly and often did not have to defend at all.”

Arsenal’s Recent Struggles Offer PSV Hope

Arsenal’s recent form has been a cause for concern. The Gunners have failed to score in their last two matches and have slipped 13 points behind in the Premier League title race.

They also remain without key attackers such as Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, potentially leaving them vulnerable against PSV’s high-pressing approach.

However, Arteta remains optimistic despite his team’s struggles. “In the last two results, it’s been very different in terms of performance as well, not getting the right result that we want, but we’ve certainly been better,” the Arsenal boss said.

“When it comes to this stage, it’s about lifting the level and the standards. Every individual has to be at their best.”
