Premier League Power Rankings After Gameweek 9: Arsenal Lead, Chelsea, Man City, and Liverpool Drop

Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur made the most of Matchday 9 of the 2025/26 Premier League season, while Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea struggled. 

There was plenty of movement in the bottom half of the table as well. Leeds United and Burnley claimed crucial wins, whereas Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered defeats.

Premier League Power Rankings: Gameweek 9

1. Arsenal (→ Steady)

Arsenal have held this position for weeks, and the 1-0 win (Eberechi Eze 39′) over Crystal Palace further cemented their position.

Their mentality and defensive resilience make them the team to beat for the title.

2. Sunderland (↑ Rising)

Most expected Sunderland to languish in the relegation zone. But after nine Gameweeks, they are closer to the top than they are to the bottom.

They secured a thrilling 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to move to fourth place and are deservedly second in our Power Rankings.

3. Bournemouth (→ Steady)

With 56 points on the board, Bournemouth finished ninth in the Premier League last season.

This year, they have already scored 18 from nine games and are second in the Premier League rankings, sitting just four points behind Arsenal.

The routine 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest showed how well-oiled Andoni Iraola’s team are.

4. Tottenham Hotspur (↑ Rising)

Thomas Frank has finally settled in at Tottenham Hotspur, starting to actualise the promise the board saw in him. Spurs claimed a thumping 3-0 victory over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium, becoming the first team to beat the Toffees at their new stadium.

The 3-0 win also saw them move to fourth place in the Premier League rankings.

5. Manchester United (↑ Rising)

Manchester United delivered a commanding performance to claim a thumping 4-2 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. Bryan Mbeumo scored a brace against the Seagulls, helping Man United win their third Premier League match in a row.

The win also saw Man Utd leapfrog league leaders Liverpool and rise to sixth place in the Premier League rankings.

6. Aston Villa (↑ Rising)

After a tough start, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have found their groove. Against a mighty Manchester City, Villa delivered a near-flawless performance at Villa Park, claiming a 1-0 victory on Matchday 9. It marked their fourth win on the bounce in the English top flight.

The Villans restricted Haaland to an xG of 0.23, by far his lowest return in the Premier League this season.

7. Manchester City (↓ Falling)

Manchester City cut a frustrating figure on Matchday 9 as Aston Villa claimed a narrow victory over them. It was a game to forget for Erling Haaland, but City still should have found a way to trouble Villa.

Their over-reliance on Haaland could prove to be costly down the line.

8. Brentford (↑ Rising)

Brentford claimed a remarkable 3-2 victory over defending Premier League champions Liverpool on Saturday. The momentum was very much in the Reds’ favour after they pulled one back in first-half injury time.

Brentford, however, refused to let go and came back swinging in the second 45, going 3-1 up through Igor Jesus’ penalty in the 60th minute. Mohamed Salah gave them a scare towards the end, but the hosts held firm to secure a famous win at Gtech Community Stadium.

9. Chelsea (↓ Falling)

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea suffered their third defeat of the season on Matchday 9, as Sunderland came from behind to beat them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Chemsdine Talbi scored the winner three minutes into stoppage time, not allowing Chelsea the time to respond. The defeat has dropped Chelsea to ninth place in the Premier League table.

Due to Chelsea’s inconsistent run of form, rumours are circulating about Maresca’s future. Chelsea manager betting odds suggest former Barcelona manager Xavi is the favourite to succeed the Italian tactician.

10. Newcastle United (→ Steady)

After a wobbly start, Newcastle United appear to have steadied themselves. On Matchday 9, they put in a solid shift to claim a 2-1 victory over Fulham. It was their second victory in three league matches.

After scoring 12 points from nine games, Newcastle United are 12th in the rankings. But owing to their recent turn of fortunes, we are giving them the 10th spot.

11. Crystal Palace (↓ Falling)

After beating Liverpool 2-1 in the last week of September, Crystal Palace were the only unbeaten team in the Premier League. They carried the good feeling over to the Conference League four days later as they beat Dynamo Kyiv away from home.

Since the win over Kyiv, Palace have played four games in all competitions, losing three and drawing one. On Matchday 9, Crystal Palace lost 1-0 to Premier League leaders Arsenal.

12. Liverpool (↓ Falling)

Another week, another defeat for Arne Slot’s reigning champions, Liverpool. Despite having some of the finest in the business in their starting XI, the Reds could not manage to get the better of Brentford.

The Bees were 3-1 up at one point before Mohamed Salah pulled one back right at the death. The 3-2 defeat has seen the Reds become the only Premier League team in the top 15 to suffer four consecutive defeats this season.

13. Brighton & Hove Albion (↓ Falling)

Brighton & Hove Albion saw their five-game unbeaten streak shatter on Saturday, as Manchester United beat them 4-2 at Old Trafford.

It was their third defeat of the season, which left them in 13th place in the rankings with 12 points.

14. Leeds United (↑ Rising)

Leeds United claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over West Ham United on Matchday 9 of the 2025/26 Premier League season. After back-to-back defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley, the victory over the Hammers gave their chances of survival a massive boost.

They are now 15th in the Premier League rankings, six points clear of the relegation zone.

15. Burnley (↑ Rising)

Burnley secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over 20th-place Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Zian Flemming scored a brace and Lyle Foster hit the winning goal in the fifth minute of injury time.

The win at the death took Burnley’s tally to 10 points. They are now five points clear of Nottingham Forest in 18th.

16. Everton (→ Steady)

Everton suffered a big 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 9. They were outplayed and comfortably outscored, and it could have been even worse had Spurs been more clinical.

Tottenham have now become the first team to beat the Toffees at their new home, Hill Dickinson Stadium.

17. Fulham (→ Steady)

Fulham suffered a narrow 2-1 loss at Newcastle United, having recorded an xG of 1.53.

The match shed light on their ability to create chances, but they must work on their finishing to get the results on the board.

18. Nottingham Forest (⚠ Struggling)

Sean Dyche gave a pleasant surprise to Nottingham Forest supporters by beating FC Porto 2-0 on his debut. Forest, however, could not carry the momentum over to the Premier League, as Bournemouth brushed them aside to register a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Dyche will look to turn it around when they host Manchester United on Saturday.

19. West Ham United (⚠ Struggling)

Mateus Fernandes scored in the 90th minute to give West Ham United a glimmer of hope against Leeds United. But it was too little too late as the Whites held firm at Elland Road to secure a 2-1 victory.

West Ham are now winless in their last six Premier League games, having lost five and drawn one.

20. Wolverhampton Wanderers (⚠ Struggling)

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ wait for their maiden win continued, as Burnley nicked an injury-time 3-2 victory at Molineux.

With only two points on the board (D 2, L 7), Wolves remain rock bottom in the Premier League table.
