Rory McIlroy says he’s feeling ‘positive vibes’ ahead of The Open after a strong showing at the Travelers Championship.
Rory McIlroy Impresses At Travelers Championship
Northern Irish legend Rory McIlroy says he’s feeling ‘positive vibes’ ahead of The Open Championship.
McIlroy, who has struggled for form since his iconic Masters triumph in April, enjoyed an encouraging display at the Travelers Championship over the weekend.
The 36-year-old posted an impressive final-round score of 65 in Connecticut.
This is on top of his opening 64, which amounted to a finishing total of 12 under par and a share of sixth place with Scottie Scheffler.

McIlroy says he feels as though he’s regaining the form that allowed him to succeed at Augusta National earlier in the year, and he’s hoping to carry that form into The Open next month.
His Masters victory saw him become just the sixth person in history to complete a career Grand Slam.
The Open, where Xander Schauffele will aim to defend his Claret Jug, will be played at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland between Thursday, 17 July and Sunday, 20 July.
McIlroy Feeling ‘Positive Vibes’ For The Open
Speaking to the media following his promising showing at the Travelers Championship, McIlroy says his overall game was ‘certainly’ better than it has been over the last few weeks.
“I drove it better, but I felt like I started to drive it better at Oakmont, so that was really good.”
He continued: “I putted the ball well. I feel like I finished up there in the putting stats.
“I think as well playing in a little bit of wind a couple of days here, trying to control your ball flight with irons a little bit, feel like that was good. Overall, I felt like my game was certainly better than it has been the last few weeks, which is a good sign.”
McIlroy continues his preparation for The Open at the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in just over two weeks’ time.
Ahead of the event, the veteran revealed that he’s taking some time off. He is due to return to the United Kingdom, where he will spend time recharging the batteries with family and friends.
“It was a good way to end the week, sort of good, positive vibes going into a couple-week break and get ready for Scotland and The Open Championship.
“I definitely saw some positive signs in the game overall, which was really good to see.
“Looking forward to getting back over to my neck of the woods for a couple of weeks and be prepared for a little bit of links golf. I think more so than anything else it will just be good for me mentally to take a little bit of a break and, as I said, get back to my neck of the woods, get back to the UK for a little bit, excited for that.
“I’ve alluded to the fact I probably haven’t taken enough time off or time to reflect after what happened [at Masters] in April, so I’m excited to do a little bit of that over these next two weeks.”
