Rory McIlroy Beaten By World Number 158 Chris Gotterup After Criticising The Scottish Open Greens

With the Open Championship this week, Rory McIlroy was hoping to head into the Portrush major having won the Scottish Open.

However, despite being the big favourite heading into the final day – sharing the overnight lead – McIlroy was beaten into second by world number 158th Chris Gotterup.

Having started Sunday on -11 and, as joint leader, McIlroy was topping the lists with the best golf betting sites in the UK.

He hit the ground running too – with back-to-back birdies on the 4th and 5th – but American’s Gotterup kept tabs on the world number two with birdies at the 3rd, 7th and 8th.

McIlroy’s birdies dried up on the back nine though – with a run of 10 straight pars – which was in contrast to Chris Gotterup’s better final nine and shots gained on Rory on the 10th and 12th.

All this was good enough to see the world number 158th hold on for a two stroke Scottish Open win (-15) – with McIlroy and Marco Penge tied for second (-13).

But during McIlroy’s stuttering back nine – the Northern Irishman was heard slamming the Renaissance Club putting surface after a missed attempt (watch below).

“It has been a great week. Missing the trophy, that’s about it.

“No frustration. I’m really happy with where everything is. Looking forward to getting to Portrush tonight and getting out on to the golf course early tomorrow and just turning my attention to that.

“But I feel like I’ve gotten out of this week everything that I wanted.
