Southampton Kit Launch Sees Saints Bring Back Iconic 1970s Home Shirt Design

The Southampton home kit launch took place on Thursday, with the Saints reviving a much-loved design from the 1970s for their new home shirt. 

Southampton have officially released their home shirt for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

A re-imagined version of an old favourite, the Puma shirt is inspired by that worn in the late 1970s.

That includes the 1976-77 season, when Saints were reigning FA Cup holders.

Southampton icons such as Bobby Stokes, Mick Channon and Alan Ball all donned the old strip back then.

While this is the official launch, it’s not the first time fans have seen the new shirt.

Unfortunately for the club, images of leaked Southampton kits appeared online more than a week ago.

Southampton Kit Launch With ‘Past Made Present’ Slogan

The shirt features two thick red stripes, with thinner red stripes either side and a large white collar.

Paired with that are black shorts with red panelling, and red and white socks.

New principal sponsor P&O Cruises features on the front of the men’s shirt for the first time.

As part of the promotion of this 1970s revival, the club photographed players in 70s-style environments to promote the kit.

Fans React To Southampton 2025-26 Home Shirt

In terms of fan response, there have been mixed reviews so far.

Some love the retro feel of the kit, while others are bemoaning the lack of originality.

One happy fan said: “Belter. Love the marketing campaign too.”

“Cracking design, love it,” added another.

A third said: “That’s gorgeous.”

But a less-than-happy supporter said: “It’s awful, won’t be wasting my money on it.

Southampton FC Fixtures 2025-26

After finishing bottom of the Premier League, Southampton were relegated back the the Championship.

They will return to action on 9 August, when they face newly-promoted Wrexham at St. Mary’s.

Southampton’s Championship fixtures see them take on rivals Portsmouth on 13 September in the first South Coast derby since 2019.
