Marco Senesi could spark a transfer battle for his signature after rejecting the chance to extend his contract at Bournemouth.
The Argentine centre-back has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers over the last 24 months and has been instrumental to the club’s impressive rise.
Bournemouth are already expected to lose Antoine Semenyo, and are reportedly working on lining up a replacement.
Senesi could be another big name braced to leave the Vitaly Stadium with his contract set to expire.
Marco Senesi turns down Bournemouth contract
The BBC reports that Senesi is said to have turned down three separate offers, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.
Bournemouth will now be preparing to lose their key man for nothing in the summer.
Senesi can sign a pre-contract with a European club in the January transfer window, and that could spark plenty of interest across the leagues.
Juventus, AC Milan and Roma have all been previously linked, as have Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.
In the Premier League, Newcastle have been touted as a potential destination with Eddie Howe looking for long-term options at the back.
Dan Burn has added to their defensive injury woes alongside Sven Botman and Kieran Trippier after breaking a rib in the defeat against Sunderland.
Burn also turns 34 on his next birthday, while Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles’ contracts expire at the end of the season.
Bournemouth saw their backline dismantled in the summer, with Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, and Ilya Zabarni all making big-money moves to Liverpool, Real Madrid, and PSG, respectively.
Senesi, who joined the club in 2022, is another who is poised to take the next step in his career.
Bournemouth eyes Marco Senesi replacement
According to Sky Sports, Bournemouth could be busy in the January window as they line up a new goalkeeper, winger and central defender.
The club wanted a player who possesses both “height and presence”, and they may look to reignite their interest in Lazio’s Mario Gila.
Reports in the summer claim Bournemouth saw a €40million bid rejected by the Italian side, who deemed their asset as unsellable.
That is likely to change in January. Lazio are currently under a transfer embargo, are under pressure to raise cash through player sales.
Gila’s contract also expires in the summer of 2027, and the club are unable to extend his deal while under their embargo.
That means they will need to cash in or risk losing him for nothing in 18 months.
