For the third straight week, golf fans witnessed a thrilling finish as Dustin Johnson hung on to win the Travelers Championship by a stroke, his 21st win on the PGA Tour, making this the 13th consecutive season in which he’s picked up a victory, the fourth-longest streak in history. DJ won’t be playing at Detroit Golf Club this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, nor will the other four players in the top five of the world ranking, but the field is still quite strong. And for those wondering, no, Tiger Woods isn’t making his return to the PGA Tour this week.

After withdrawing from the Travelers Championship, Webb Simpson will play the Rocket Mortgage Classic

After withdrawing from the Travelers Championship as a precautionary measure following a COVID-19 scare, Webb Simpson will be in the field for the Rocket Mortgage Classic as he’s reported that his family has all tested negative.

Simpson was one of numerous players to withdraw at TPC River Highlands, a group that included Cameron Champ, Graeme McDowell, and Brooks and Chase Koepka. Of this group, only Champ actually tested positive. Outside of Simpson, who won the RBC Heritage, his second PGA Tour win of the season, none of the other four are in the field for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Five of the top 20 players are in the field

Webb Simpson is one of five top-20 players in the field this week at the Mortgage Classic. Currently No. 6 in the Official World Golf Ranking, he’ll be the top-ranked player at Detroit Golf Club this week with the top five taking the week off. He’ll be joined by No. 7 Patrick Reed, No. 10 Bryson DeChambeau, No. 15 Tyrrell Hatton, and No. 17 Tony Finau.

Other notable names in the field include Rocket Mortgage pitchman Rickie Fowler, Sungjae Im, Hideki Matsuyama, Kevin Na, and defending Rocket Mortgage Classic champion Nate Lashley.
