Amari Cooper is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. There’s no disputing that fact.

However, where the four-time Pro Bowler catches footballs for the 2020 season and beyond is more of a mystery. One of many big names on the open market this NFL offseason, Cooper will certainly field a ton of offers from teams once he enters free agency. But where does he want to go?

In a radio interview Thursday night, one of the big weapons for the Dallas Cowboys this past season made it crystal clear where he’d like to be.

Amari Cooper just had the best year of his career

When entering the final year of a contract, the goal for any professional athlete is to have a big season. A big season means big money in a new deal and Amari Cooper just had the best year of his young NFL career.

As part of the number one offense in the NFL, Cooper pulled in a career-high 1,189 yards, just one yard short of the sixth spot in the league in 2019. He had 79 catches, the most he’s had since his sophomore season in 2016, and scored a career-high eight touchdowns, which tied for seventh in the NFL.

Since joining the Cowboys, Amari Cooper has 132 catches for 1,914 yards and 14 touchdowns in 25 games.

Cooper wants to be a ‘Dallas Cowboy for life’

Since coming to the Dallas Cowboys from the Raiders in a 2018 midseason trade, Cooper has seemingly fallen in love with the culture. The Dallas Cowboys are easily one of the most popular teams in the NFL and are regularly featured in the most-watched games during the season. The practice and training facilities are second to none and Cooper loves where he is now.

In an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Thursday night, he made it perfectly clear that he wants to stay with the Cowboys for as long as possible.

“I love being a Dallas Cowboy. I was just thinking about that today – I think about it almost every day, really. Primetime games, it seems like more night games than anybody, and that always feels good for football players. Everything – the facility, I love it here in Frisco. Just the aura of being a Dallas Cowboy, I mean you can’t beat it. I want to be a Dallas Cowboy for life.”

Amari Cooper

That’s pretty clear.

What are the chances Amari Cooper stays with the Dallas Cowboys?

There are many factors in play when it comes to Amari Cooper re-signing with the Dallas Cowboys. While coming out and clearly saying that he wants to stay is a good sign and a nice sentiment, it’s going to take a lot of money to get the deal done. Cooper has proven he’s one of the best receivers in the NFL and will want to get paid like one. Currently, four receivers (Julio Jones, Michael Thomas, Odell Beckham Jr., Tyreek Hill) make at least $18 million per year. Cooper may demand just as much.

There’s also the matter of Dak Prescott, as well as the impending CBA. Under the current system, the Cowboys could tag both Prescott and Cooper to keep them in Dallas while negotiating new contracts. If the new CBA is approved, they could only choose one. With contract talks perhaps being a little easier with Cooper, they could sign him and tag Prescott.

There are a lot of questions that will have to be answered soon. Tagging decisions have to be made in less than a week and free agency begins on March 18. Will Amari Cooper get his wish and stay with the Dallas Cowboys? Only time will tell.
