Denny Hamlin’s Success Goes Beyond the NASCAR Tracks as the Father of 2 Girls

As if being a NASCAR driver and a team owner isn’t enough. Denny Hamlin’s success goes well beyond the race tracks as he juggles life as a motorsports phenom and a dad. Although he hasn’t won a 2021 race, he’s winning in the points standings. He’s also winning as a father. There’s very little downtime for Hamlin, and he’s loving every minute of it.

Hamlin is winning without winning. He’s the leader in points in the NASCAR Cup Series despite not having won a 2021 race. It’s consistency that’s gotten Hamlin to the 664 points, 47 more than Kyle Larson, who is in second place and is tied with Martin Truex Jr. for most victories this season with three.

Hamlin claims he doesn’t have the speed he did last year. “This year’s been a little different,” he said back in April, according to NBC Sports. We’ve been really, really close and really, really consistent and up front. Just not the overall outright speed that we had last year. But we’re getting better.”

Despite the lack of wins, Hamlin is looking down at the field when it comes to points. He’s at the top because he’s tied with Larson for the most top-five finishes. He and William Byron also have the most top-10 finishes with 12 apiece.

“I don’t beat our team up too much about the wins because we truly haven’t had the dominant cars that we had last year, where we led all the laps because we were super-fast, and we just beat the competition,” he said.

Denny Hamlin also winning outside of NASCAR as a father

After a long weekend of racing, most NASCAR drivers take in a couple of extra hours of sleep Monday morning. Not Hamlin, who rises early for his daddy duties. Hamlin is the father of two young girls. Taylor is 8 and Molly is 3. If you think he has his hands full on the weekends, he’s quite busy during the week doing the non-racing stuff.

Hamlin co-parents his daughters with their mother, Jordan Fish. He said he has his girls alone, “a lot of the time,” according to Sports Illustrated. He’s a family guy and does his best to juggle life in the fast lane and life with his two girls.

Not only is he racing in the Cup Series, but he’s also an owner, teaming with Michael Jordan as co-owner of 23XI Racing, which is also in the Cup Series.

“You try to do the best you can,” Hamlin said. “It is a lot. I never would have dreamed of being able to do it, but I had no choice. I put myself in these positions, and I was the one that decided that I wanted to own a race team as well. It’s been a lot, but what’s been great about it is that I’ve had good results in all areas.”

Hamlin embraces those daddy moments

Hamlin’s schedule is pretty full. When he’s not racing or preparing for a race, he’s working on his ownership of 23XI Racing. He’s also dealing with singing, dancing, and acting – for his daughter. Taylor is heavily involved in singing and dancing. Hamlin admitted she “is an absolute handful.”

“Hopefully the oldest one doesn’t bring any of the bad habits with the youngest one,” Hamlin said. “But they’re fun. I mean, they’re a LOT of fun. I enjoy every day, taking care of them and kind of raising them, and their mom is doing a great job as well.”

Hamlin is enjoying everything about 2021. “Certainly my driving career, we’re off to a very hot start with our 11 FedEx team. And the 23 team is continuing to get better, and I feel like I’m doing my part as a dad.”
