Eric Dickerson Believes the Rams’ Offseason Power Move ‘Most Definitely’ Makes Them the Team to Beat in the NFL
The Los Angeles Rams made the franchise-altering decision to ship Jared Goff away to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford this past offseason, and it’s already paying off with a 7-1 record. Eric Dickerson, who wasn’t a Goff believer in the first place, believes the Rams got rid of the one thing holding them back from reaching their full potential, and they’re now the team to beat in the NFL.
Eric Dickerson believes Jared Goff was holding the Rams back
Dickerson played the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Rams, and he led the league in rushing in three of them. He’s still an LA fan nearly 30 years later.
The Hall of Fame running back recently spoke to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire about his old team, and he bluntly admitted ditching Goff for Stafford was the perfect move to unlock this high-powered offense.
“I think (Sean) McVay can run his offense that he’s been wanting to run since he got here,” Dickerson said. “I said that three years ago. It wasn’t popular when I said it, but I said, ‘I’m telling you.’ And nothing against Jared Goff but he’s not the guy. He’s not the guy for McVay’s offense. McVay couldn’t say it but I could say it and I still got beat up on for it. I’m not a quarterback but I know what I saw. I said if we just had a quarterback that could run his offense. And I think he has the guy now that he kind of doesn’t have to hold his hand.”
Behind Stafford, the Rams rank fifth in the NFL in points per game (30.6) and yards per game (405.9). Not only that, but Stafford is a legitimate MVP candidate for the first time in his 13-year career.
This is already looking like a huge win for both sides.
Dickerson thinks the Rams are “most definitely” the team to beat in the NFL
The Rams just made a massive splash at the trade deadline by poaching Von Miller away from the Denver Broncos, and they’re now arguably the most complete team in the NFL (if they weren’t already). Dickerson believes the Miller addition makes LA even more dangerous, but he thought the Rams were the team to beat even before that.
“Most definitely,” he told Rams Wire. “I think we were one of the teams to beat anyway even before we got Von Miller. But is that a plus? Most definitely because I think even for Von it’ll be better. He doesn’t have to be the guy all the time. I know what it’s like to be the guy everyone hones in on, they game plan for you. Now they can’t just game plan for him because Raheem Morris does a great job with that defense.”
Dickerson also said McVay told him in the offseason this is one of the best rosters he’s ever had, and it’s hard not to agree with him.

Last season, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made NFL history by becoming the first team to win a Super Bowl in their home stadium. The Rams can join them in the record books this season, as Super Bowl 56 will be held at SoFi Stadium in LA.
The $5 billion stadium is a perfect venue for the biggest game of the year, and we can’t think of a better team to hold up the Lombardi Trophy inside.
