One of the most memorable postgame interviews happened six years ago and it involved Fox sideline reporter Erin Andrews and then-Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. It’s an iconic piece of NFL history that will live on in the world of sports media. To this day, it’s still brought up when Andrews is around and she’s always happy to talk about it. She just wishes she got a commercial out of it.

Erin Andrews’ sports media career

Erin Andrews graduated from the University of Florida in 2000 with a degree in Telecommunication. Andrews, who considered herself a tomboy growing up, always had an interest in sports. In 2000, she began her career as a freelance reporter for Fox Sports Florida.

For two years, Andrews worked as a reporter for The Sunshine Network, covering the Tampa Bay Lightning. She then worked for Turner South from 2002-2004 and covered the Atlanta Thrashers, Atlanta Braves, and Atlanta Hawks. Andrews then made the jump to ESPN in 2004, working on ESPN National Hockey Night.

While at ESPN, Andrews also was a sideline reporter for ESPN College Football Saturday Primetime and also worked Big Ten basketball games. Andrews, from 2008-2010, even did some reporting for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. In 2012, Andrews left ESPN for Fox Sports, serving mainly as a sideline reporter for many of Fox’s major sporting events. She continues to be one of the best sideline reporters in the business.

Andrews interviews an intense Richard Sherman

Immediately after Richard Sherman broke up a pass intended for then-San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree in 2014, Andrews went to get Sherman’s thoughts on the play. Sherman was obviously hyped-up after helping his Seattle Seahawks earn a berth in the Super Bowl. Some might say he was a little overhyped.

“The final play, take me through it,” Andrews asked Sherman. “Well, I’m the best corner in the game,” Sherman screamed at the camera as Andrews gave a surprised nod. “When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you’re gonna get.”

Sherman continued to scream at the camera. “Don’t you ever talk about me,” he yelled. “Who was talking about you?” Andrews asked. “Crabtree. Don’t you open your mouth about the best or I’m gonna shut it for you real quick.” Andrews then said, “And, Joe, back over to you.”

Andrews jokes about the interview

During last week’s episode of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s podcast DangerTalk, Erin Andrews was a guest on the show. The topic of Andrews’ interview with Richard Sherman came up and Andrews had no problem at all speaking about it. She joked about it and wishes something else had come out of it.

“There were so many parts to that that were just hilarious,” Andrews said. “I’m just ticked off I never got a Snickers commercial out of it. I tried to sell it so badly to Mars, but they weren’t listening to me. Whatever. And even when he went to San Francisco, I tried to resell it. Like he’s angry, he’s yelling at me and I give him a Snickers and he’s in a 49ers uniform.”

For the record, Andrews holds nothing against Sherman. She said the two are friends. “What I was worried about then was holy crap what am I going to ask for a second question?” Andrews said. “I don’t want people to think he’s yelling at me because he’s not. He’s awesome.”
