Kyle Shanahan NFL MVP Brock Purdy Christian McCaffrey
Kyle Shanahan refuses to comment!

As the NFL season nears its conclusion, the San Francisco 49ers are the clear-cut favorites to win the Super Bowl after the first 14 weeks of the season. Although their defense has been awesome and deserves its flowers, it is the offense that continues to shine.

Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey are a dominant one-two punch in the backfield. Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel are a nasty trio of pass-catchers.

There is a growing conversation to be had about the NFL MVP. It is very possible that Purdy and McCaffrey could finish first and second in the Most Valuable Player race.

Purdy has completed 70.2% of his passes for 2,553 yards and 25 touchdowns with one interception. McCaffrey is well over 1,500 all-purpose yards with 17 touchdowns.

More than likely, if the season was to end today, Purdy would get the nod. Sportsbooks have him listed either at the top or near the top of MVP odds. The quarterback is the most important player on the field, so it is more likely that the quarterback will win over another position.

When it comes to the MVP conversation, NFL head coaches often chime in and support their players. However, Shanahan will not do so!

He will not endorse Purdy. He will not endorse McCaffrey.

The 44-year-old head coach made it clear that he is staying totally neutral when asked about the debate on Thursday afternoon. Neither guy will get his blessing over the other!

Are you trying to get me in trouble with those two guys? That’s the only reason I wouldn’t comment on either one of them, because I don’t want them to cancel each other out!

— Kyle Shanahan

Should neither Purdy nor McCaffrey win MVP, the 49ers have multiple other chances to pick up some hardware. The latter currently holds the second-highest odds of winning ‘Offensive Player of the Year’ behind Tyreek Hill. Shanahan holds the sixth-best odds of being named ‘Coach of the Year.’

San Francisco has established itself as the best team in the NFL through Week 14. It would be pretty wild if none of them win an award, but apparently that’s what happens when everybody on the team is good!
