Eagles vs. Vikings Odds, Spread, Prediction: Best Bets for Monday Night Football
It’s been a wild and wacky Week 2 around the NFL, and we’ve got a high-powered showdown to finish it off. In the second game of the Monday Night Football doubleheader, the Philadelphia Eagles will play host to the Minnesota Vikings in what could be an important result for playoff seeding by the end of the regular season.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into the matchup from a betting perspective and try to find some winners for Eagles-Vikings.
Eagles vs. Vikings odds, spread, prediction
Spread: Eagles -2.5
Total: 49.5
Moneyline: Eagles -142, Vikings +120
The Vikings had a more impressive win in Week 1 by dominating the Green Bay Packers, 23-7, but it’s the Eagles who have been pegged as the betting favorites for this MNF showdown. Philadelphia is currently a 2.5-point favorite in the game, with the total sitting at 49.5.
Both offenses looked crisp to start the season, as the Vikings averaged 6.5 yards per play against the Packers and the Eagles averaged 6.3 YPP against the Detroit Lions. Justin Jefferson went off for 184 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1, but the Eagles are more equipped to slow him down with two star cornerbacks in Darius Slay and James Bradberry.
Minnesota was able to pressure Aaron Rodgers and sack him four times last week, but it won’t be as easy against an elusive Jalen Hurts behind a top-five offensive line in the NFL. I also think the Eagles will be able to run the ball efficiently against a Vikings defense that gave up 130.7 rushing yards per game last season.
If Philadelphia’s defense lets Jefferson get loose and can’t pressure Kirk Cousins in the game, the Eagles could be in for a long night. But I expect Philly’s secondary to make just enough plays to keep Minnesota in the 20s, and Hurts will handle the rest.
Prediction: Eagles 30, Vikings 26
Eagles vs. Vikings best bets
Eagles -2.5 (-115)
I’ve already explained why I like the Eagles to win this one. I think the spread should be -3 or -3.5, so getting Philly at under a field goal is enough value to take the home favorites. Kirk Cousins is also 2-9 straight up and against the spread in his career on Monday Night Football, and both wins came against the Chicago Bears.
A.J. Brown anytime touchdown scorer (+115)
The Vikings weren’t tested against Green Bay’s below-average group of wide receivers last week, and when they were, they nearly allowed a 75-yard touchdown to rookie Christian Watson on the first drive of the game. It’ll be a different story against A.J. Brown, who went off for 10 catches and 155 yards against the Detroit Lions in Week 1.
Brown wants to show out for the Philly fans in his first home game as an Eagle, so I think he finds his way into the end zone.
