Who is Rory McIlroy’s wife? The five-time major winner, and this season’s US Masters hero, actually filed for divorce from his partner in May 2024 before reconciling a month later.
Rory McIlroy’s Wife Is Erica Stoll
Golfing legend Rory McIlroy’s wife is Erica Stoll. The couple’s love story goes all the way back to the 2012 Ryder Cup, where they first met.
Interestingly, it was due to McIlroy’s failure to adjust to the time zone in Illinois that very nearly made him miss his tee time from oversleeping! Low and behold, his future wife was there to save the day.
At the time, Stoll was working as PGA transport official so some could argue that fate certainly played its part. She helped McIlroy arrive at the course and a friendship began to blossom.
That particular companionship lasted until 2014 – when things began to get more serious. Stoll had spent a lot of time on the PGA circuit as an office manager and the manager of championship volunteer operations.
Therefore, it was technically her job to get to know the players and liaise with them as and when necessary. Furthermore, McIlroy was in a relationship with tennis player Caroline Wozniacki at the time he met Stoll.
McIlroy binned off Wozniacki and ramped things up with Stoll. Reportedly making it official with her in late 2014 but they didn’t go public till halfway through the following year.
Originally from Irondequoit, New York, Stoll was also a keen tennis player during her youth before deciding to pursue a degree in marketing.
Ironically, Stoll shares a birthday with golfing legend Arnold Palmer. Six years ago, McIlroy posted on his official Instagram page a heartfelt message to both, and credited the pair with helping him become a ‘better man.’

Rory McIlroy And Erica Stoll Married In 2017
In 2015, Rory McIlroy decided that he was going to propose to Erica Stoll in Paris. This despite the terrorist attacks that plagued the French capital.
McIlroy did have his doubts owing to what happened but went through with his plan. He later admitted that if the feeling wasn’t right, the couple would have travelled elsewhere and he would have done it there.
The couple got married on April 22, 2017 at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland. The plush ceremony was littered with A-listers such as Stevie Wonder and actor Jamie Dornan.
Three years after they exchanged vows, McIlroy and Stoll welcomed their baby daughter into the world. Poppy Kennedy McIlroy was born on August 31, 2020.
Mum and tot are often spotted supporting McIlroy during his tournaments and Stoll even helps caddie from time-to-time – with a little help from Poppy!
However, last year appeared to be the end for McIlroy and Stoll. The four-time major winner filed for divorce in May but by June, the couple decided to stay together as a family.
The pair try to keep their private life out of the spotlight and Stoll doesn’t talk to the media too much, if at all. She has an Instagram account which is set to private – presumably to help protect Poppy.
