While the world of football mourns the death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, a few heartless betting firms have cut the odds of Alexander Isak joining the Reds.
Diogo Jota Dead at 28 Following Car Crash
Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota tragically died in a car crash in the early hours of Thursday morning. He was just 28-years-old.
Jota’s brother Andre Silva – who was also a professional footballer, playing in the Portuguese second tier – passed away in the accident as well.
Local police confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that the Lamborghini veered off the road after suffering a tyre blowout while overtaking. The vehicle then caught on fire.
Shortly after reports emerged from Spain and Portugal, both the Portuguese Football Federation and Liverpool confirmed Jota’s death in their respective statements.
The Reds wrote: “Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
Tributes quickly rolled in for the 49-time Portugal international, with many dubbing him a ‘Liverpool legend’. There have also been calls for the Reds to retire Jota’s number 20 shirt.
Heartless Betting Firms Cut Alexander Isak Odds To Join Liverpool
While the world of football mourns the death of Jota, a few heartless bookmakers have cut the odds of Newcastle United attacker Alexander Isak joining Liverpool this summer.
The Swede has long been linked with a move to Anfield, with some reports suggesting that the Magpies are demanding a fee of at least £150m to sell their star man.
Prior to Thursday morning’s tragic news, Isak was priced at around 2/1 or higher with the majority of betting firms to join the Reds.
Some bookies now have him as little as 5/4 to make the move.
Whether Isak joins the Merseyside outfit remains to be seen, but Liverpool’s sole focus at this moment in time will be with supporting Jota’s friends and family – not the transfer market.

UEFA have confirmed that a moment of silence will be observed during Thursday’s Women’s Euro 2025 match between Spain and Portugal off the back of the dreadful news.
Meanwhile, current and former Liverpool players have paid tribute to Jota.
Darwin Nunez wrote: “There are no words of comfort for so much pain.
“I will always remember you with your smile, as a good companion on and off the field.
“I send all my strength to his family, from where he is I’m sure he will always be with you, especially his wife and three children.
“May he rest in peace. Diogo and Andre.”
Jamie Carragher added: “Devastating news about Diogo Jota & his brother Andre this morning.
“Thoughts are with everyone of their family & friends, especially his wife Rute & their three lovely kids.”
Steven Gerrard said: “RIP Diogo. Condolences to his family and friends during this incredibly sad time.”
