Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has responded to reports linking him with Liverpool.
It comes amid talks of Arne Slot’s potential departure from Anfield, with the Dutchman currently topping the Premier League sack race odds market after a poor run of results.
The Reds have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions. Most recently, they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 against relegation-threatened Leeds on Saturday.
Their visit to Elland Road saw Mohamed Salah benched for a third successive match, and following the full-time whistle, he told the media that the club had ‘thrown him under the bus’.
Salah will miss Inter vs Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night after his comments, with the Egyptian now heavily linked with a January move away from Merseyside.
Should the Reds suffer defeat at the San Siro, Anfield chiefs may opt to part ways with Slot.
Like Slot, Alonso is under immense pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu as things stand.
He has led his side to just two victories in their last seven matches across all competitions, and their shock 2-0 defeat by Celta on Sunday saw Barcelona move four points clear at the top.
They host Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday, where a loss could spell the end of his short tenure. To make matters worse, Alonso may be without Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe suffered an injury against Celta Vigo and is a doubt for City’s visit.
Ahead of the clash, the Los Blancos coach faced the media in the Spanish capital.
Asked if he was open to a return to the England, Alonso said: “For sure, there’s a bond with English clubs and my former club. But at the moment this is my place, this is where I want to be.
“In the future, you never know what will happen.”

Could Alonso Join Liverpool?
Should both Alonso and Slot be dismissed from their respective roles in the coming weeks or months, it is entirely possible that the former opts to make his long-awaited return to Anfield.
The Spaniard previously admitted that he had ‘dreamt’ of managing Liverpool one day.
That dream could soon become a reality, with Zinedine Zidane currently being touted as a potential replacement for Alonso, according to the next Real Madrid manager odds market.
Despite this, Alonso isn’t currently favoured to become the next Reds boss.
Should Slot be sacked, Jurgen Klopp is seen as the favourite to make a sensational return.
