Brock Purdy
Broke Brock

Brock Purdy was never supposed to be the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. The QB1 job kind of just fell into his lap.

Jimmy Garoppolo got injured. Trey Lance was terrible.

Now, just barely more than one year later, Purdy — who was picked dead last in the 2022 NFL Draft — is no longer Mr. Irrelevant. He is the frontrunner for NFL MVP!

Despite his consistent success at quarterback over the last 26 games, Purdy is not getting paid on the same level of other players in his position. The 23-year-old signed a four-year, $3.7 million contract with the 49ers shortly after being selected with the 259th overall pick and will make $870,000 this year.

Think about that for a second!

Garoppolo signed a three-year, $73 million contract with Las Vegas after getting beat out by Purdy last year. The odds-on favorite to be named the Most Valuable Player in the National Football League is getting paid more than 10 million less than the guy whose job he took last year.

This all goes to say that Brock Purdy is underpaid.

Quarterbacks often times gift the offensive line, or the entire offense around Christmas time. The signal-caller in San Francisco cannot afford to do so because he is not getting paid what he should.

Fortunately, Christian McCaffrey stepped into that role this year and gifted new golf clubs to his offensive teammates. Purdy is very grateful!

The smile on Purdy’s face says everything that needs to be said. He is fully aware of his financial situation and looks forward to buying the gifts next year.

As soon as this season comes to a close, John Lynch and the 49ers front office are going to sit down at the negotiating table across from Purdy and his agent. A new contract is coming, and it’s going to be much, much bigger than his current deal!
