Married life has been an unexpectedly bumpy road thus far for Houston Texans star J.J. Watt and soccer-playing wife Kealia Ohai. Oh, all indications are that everything’s great between the two, but starting the marriage in the middle of a pandemic created challenges.

Not being able to follow some of the plans that you’d worked out can be frustrating.

And then one of your business partners comes along to remind you: “Hey, you’re J.J. Watt. Life is good.”

J.J. Watt and Kealia Ohai enjoyed extra time together

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and Chicago Red Stars midfielder/forward Kealia Ohai were married Feb. 15, 2020. Less than a month later, the country was going into a lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic unlike anything Americans could ever recall.

The couple found themselves isolated from their teammates, but at least they were together at the Wisconsin home, where they could continue training and also settle into something approaching a normal married life. That may sound simple to some, but it’s not the case for a two-career couple when his job is in Houston, hers is in Chicago, and it’s possible they could go weeks at a time without being together even under normal circumstances.

“It was great, we really enjoyed it,” Watt told People magazine. “We got a chance to spend a lot of time together, to train and just to be together after our wedding.”

Because of where their respective sports fall on the calendar, Ohai returned to work before Watt did as the National Women’s Soccer League created a quarantine bubble and relaunched with its Challenge Cup tournament in Utah. That forced them to live apart for about six weeks beginning in June.

She was able to return home right around the time that Watt was in the latter stages of final preparations for what will be an abbreviated NFL training camp, and the couple received a belated wedding gift to help them celebrate being reunited.

Gatorade sends the couple a gift

Besides his contract with the Houston Texans, J.J. Watt is a money-making machine off the field thanks to a list of endorsements that includes well-received commercials for Subway that also feature his brothers and parents.

One of his biggest sponsorship arrangements is with Gatorade, and Watt shared a picture on Twitter of the belated wedding gift that he and wife Kealia Ohai received from Gatorade. Though it looks suspiciously like lime Gatorade, it is in fact a bottle of Cristal. The contents go for something in the neighborhood of $200, and the specially branded bottle plus the accompanying glassware had to run the Gatorade folks at least as much.

Twitter has fun with J.J. Watt’s gift from Gatorade

Let’s face it, J.J. Watt’s life is way better than ours. He’s rich, famous, talented, and telegenic. So, when a sweet gift like the bottle of Cristal falls into his lap, friends and followers on Twitter are going to have some fun with it.

Watt posted a photo of the gift from Gatorade on Aug. 9, and the reactions were awesome.
