While Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and President Donald Trump were linked to each other back in 2017 when both expressed their disapproval of players kneeling during the national anthem, the extent of their relationship was never known. On Friday, Jones revealed how close the two men are when he offered his sincere well wishes to the President after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Jerry Jones and President Donald Trump agree on kneeling position

While former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick initially protested racial injustice and police brutality at the beginning of the 2016 season by kneeling during the national anthem, the subject remained relatively quiet until President Donald Trump raised the issue at the beginning of the 2017 NFL season.

At that time, the President suggested during one of his rallies that the NFL owners should respond to the players by saying, “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He’s fired!”

Several NFL owners responded, and not surprisingly, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was one of the most vocal.

“We cannot in any way give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag,” Jones told the Dallas Morning News. “We know that there is a serious debate in this country about those issues, but there is no question in my mind, that the [NFL] and the Dallas Cowboys are going to stand up for the flag.”

President Donald Trump and First Lady infected with COVID-19

On Thursday, it was revealed that close Presidential adviser Hope Hicks had tested positive for the virus, was symptomatic, and had been in close proximity to the President in recent days, including flying to and from a rally in Minnesota on Air Force One.

On Thursday night, President Donald Trump appeared on Fox News and said he and the First Lady had been tested but hadn’t yet received any results. That changed around midnight when the President posted a tweet indicating he and the First Lady had tested positive for the virus.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

Jerry Jones sends heartfelt message to President Donald Trump in COVID-19 battle

On Friday, Jerry Jones made his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan. At one point during the interview, Jones was asked about the COVID issues facing the NFL and the recent outbreak in the Tennessee Titans organization. Jones addressed the NFL and then pivoted to President Donald Trump’s recent diagnosis.

“While we’re talking about it, I want to express my sensitivity and concern for the President. No one in the world has the ability to handle this COVID any better than the Office of the President of the United States. I’m very confident that he’ll be able to continue governing. I’m sure that he has anticipated this. Knowing him, he’s the hardest worker that you’ve ever seen. Knowing him, he’ll be able go right on through this and hopefully not miss a beat.”

Jerry Jones is known as a shrewd businessman. But his Friday remarks regarding President Donald Trump and his COVID-19 diagnosis, not only revealed a softer side, but showed how close his relationship is with the President. And in times like these, you need all the support you can get.
