The 54-year-old legend looks as quick and nimble as he did 30 years ago, but fans were skeptical that Tyson would ever compete in the ring again. After his retirement in 2005, boxing fans were convinced they wold never see the great Mike Tyson in the ring again. Tyson took 15 years to explore an acting career and start his own business ventures.

Evidently, the itch to fight eventually came back. Tyson recently started posting training videos online and began to express his desire to get back inside the ropes. At 54 years of age, the boxing world scoffed at the thought.

Then another training video surfaced. Then another. And even more after that. Tyson looked just as powerful and fast as the undisputed heavyweight champion we came to know and love in his prime.

Tyson tried for months to find a willing opponent for his comeback bout, and now he finally has one.

Mike Tyson will make his return to boxing against Roy Jones Jr.

After months of speculation and rumors, Mike Tyson finally has his next opponent. Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports reported Thursday that Tyson will return to the ring against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in September.

The fight will be an eight-round exhibition bout. Neither boxer will wear headgear, and the gloves will be larger and heavier than normal boxing gloves.

Andy Foster, the executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, helped orchestrate the anticipated bout.

“This isn’t a situation where they’re going out there to try to take each other’s heads off,” Foster told Yahoo Sports. “They’re just going to be in there moving around the ring and letting fans see these legends.”

Hey, we’ll take anything we can get as long as “Iron Mike” can get back in the ring.

How will boxing fans be able to watch Mike Tyson’s comeback fight?

Mike Tyson’s return to boxing is as real as his heavyweight belts. Iole confirmed the fight against Roy Woods Jr. will take place on Sept. 12 at Dignity Health Sport Park in Carson, Calif.

The bout will be available on Pay-per-view, as well as the up-and-coming social media platform Triller, according to TMZ. Normally, two 50-year-olds sparring in the ring wouldn’t attract many paying viewers, but this is no normal fight.

Tyson is a former heavyweight champion and went 50-6 in his boxing career. Jones Jr. held titles in four weight classes during his prime, and he retired in 2018 with a 66-9 record.
