Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be a popular bet this fall after retaining all 22 starters this offseason, but Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs might be even more dangerous with revenge on their mind.

So, who are the top favorites to win Super Bowl 56, and which teams should you be putting your money on this year?

Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs are Super Bowl 56 favorites over Tom Brady’s Bucs

Many bettors are understandably interested in loading up on the Buccaneers to repeat as Super Bowl champions this year. Brady looks just as crisp as he did 10 years ago, the roster is still stacked from top to bottom, and now they have the experience of a championship run under their belt.

But, maybe surprisingly, the Bucs aren’t the favorites to win Super Bowl 56.

That title belongs to the Chiefs at +500 odds. Tampa Bay is right behind them at +600.

It’s hard to blame oddsmakers for their decision to put the Chiefs in the top spot. Mahomes will be back to full strength this season, and he still has arguably the most dangerous set of weapons in the NFL surrounding him on offense.

Behind the two reigning Super Bowl contenders are the Buffalo Bills at +1100 odds. Then comes a slew of teams at +1400: the Baltimore Ravens, the Green Bay Packers, the Los Angeles Rams, and the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs and Buccaneers seem to be in a tier of their own heading into the new season. Would anyone really be surprised if they met in the Super Bowl for the second straight year?

But both teams now have massive targets on their backs coming off conference championship seasons, and there are a number of teams who will be coming for their thrones in 2021-22.

It might be enticing to load up on the Chiefs and Buccaneers due to their superior rosters and battle-tested quarterbacks, but we’re going to pass on both at their current prices. Let’s start off with the 49ers at +1400 instead.

It’s not a great price for a team that didn’t even make the playoffs last year, but they’re finally healthy again and the defense should be back to its elite self this season. If Trey Lance can win the starting QB job and take Kyle Shanahan’s offense to the next level, this team will be a serious threat to the Bucs in the NFC.

Let’s also take a look at the Ravens at the same +1400 price. Lamar Jackson has already won an MVP award with below-average weapons on the outside, and he enters the upcoming season with the most promising group of skill players he’s had yet. With the offensive line back to full strength and the secondary still regarded as one of the best in the league, Baltimore is the team to watch in the AFC below the Chiefs.

For a longer shot, let’s throw in the Dolphins at +3500. Tua Tagovailoa didn’t exactly live up to the hype in his rookie season, but he was also coming off a major injury and looked a bit gun-shy on the field at times. He’s due for a bounce-back sophomore campaign. Jaylen Waddle and Will Fuller will add another dimension to this offense, while the addition of Jason McCourty will only improve a top-10 defense.
