Patrick Mahomes has entered a new and exciting phase of his life, and it has nothing to do with football. The Kansas City Chiefs‘ superstar recently became a father with his fiancee, Brittany Matthews. The longtime couple had their first daughter, Sterling Skye Mahomes, in February, and they’re already loving life as young parents.
Mahomes recently opened up about his new life as a father, and he admitted that he’s been a “cheerleader on the sideline” while Matthews handles most of the dirty work.

But his new name might be the most meaningful of all — father.
On Feb. 20, a few weeks after the Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55, Mahomes inherited his new name when fiancee Brittany Matthews gave birth to the couple’s first daughter. They named her Sterling Skye, and she’ll be showing off her rocket arm to her jealous classmates at recess in no time.
Mahomes and Matthews have been together since they met at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. They got engaged last September after Mahomes received his Super Bowl 54 ring. A few months later, they started their new journey as parents.

Mahomes’ daughter set the internet on fire again when Matthews posted a picture on her Instagram of the young family at the Kansas City Royals’ first game of the 2021 season. A few days later, Matthews posted another adorable picture of the three celebrating Easter Sunday together.

With Mahomes constantly preparing for the lengthened 2021-22 NFL season, he hasn’t been able to spend as much time at home with his fiancee and newborn daughter as he’d like. Mahomes recently spoke about becoming a parent, and he had a glowing review of Matthews as a mother.
“It has been awesome,” Mahomes told Yahoo Finance in a recent Zoom interview. “Luckily enough, Brittany’s been a champ. I mean she’s helped me a ton, I just try to be supportive as possible — so I do what I can. But at the same time, she pretty much handles everything and I’m just kind of a cheerleader on the sideline.”
“I mean I’m still able to get the workouts and stuff done in the morning,” Mahomes continued. “And then I come home and do a lot of just holding her and trying to figure out which way she isn’t crying and try to keep her in that position.”
Mahomes faces off against the biggest and baddest dudes in professional sports every week during the season, but fatherhood might be the greatest challenged he’s faced since joining the NFL.
