Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has an impressive $8.6 billion net worth, but he pales in comparison to the richest NFL owner in 2020.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones might be the most popular team owner in the entire NFL, but he isn’t the richest.

Forbes recently released its annual list of the 400 richest people in the United States, and Jones checked in at No. 56 with an $8.6 billion net worth. While that isn’t anything to complain about, Jones is still looking up at another NFL owner who has him beat by nearly $5 billion.

Jerry Jones is worth $8.6 billion as of 2020

Jones has been the general manager and owner of the Cowboys since 1989. He originally purchased the team for a mere $60 million 31 years ago. Now, it’s worth a whopping $5.7 billion.

Over the course of his ownership, Jones has guided his beloved Cowboys to three Super Bowl titles. All three came within seven years of Jones purchasing the franchise, and they haven’t won a Lombardi Trophy since then.

Jones has built the Cowboys into one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world, but he still doesn’t hold the title of richest owner in the NFL.

Forbes recently published its list of the 400 richest Americans in 2020, and NFL names were littered all over it. Jones came in as the 56th-richest person in the country with his $8.6 billion net worth, but there’s another owner who has him beat.

David Tepper, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, takes the top spot with his massive $13 billion net worth. He checks in as the 41st-richest person in America this year.

Tepper is regarded as one of the most successful hedge fund managers ever. His Appaloosa Management hedge fund firm used to manage $20 billion, but it’s now down to $13 billion.

The 15 richest NFL owners in 2020 are shown below:

1. David Tepper, Panthers: $13 billion

The Cowboys are still the most valuable franchise in the NFL

Jones might not be the richest owner in the NFL, but he has still turned the Cowboys into one of the most valuable franchises in sports. As of 2020, the Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in the NFL at $5.7 billion.

Jones turned a $60 million investment into $5.7 billion and one of the most popular brands in sports today. The Cowboys are America’s Team for a reason, and that reason is Jerry Jones.

The longtime owner might not be happy sitting at No. 2 on the list of NFL owners, but it’s hard to complain about an $8.6 billion net worth. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Jones take over the top spot at some point in the near future.
