Tom Brady is becoming more practical in his old age. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and wife Gisele Bundchen have found a new home that’s barely a quarter of the size of Derek Jeter’s mansion, where they had been living.

And while he may occasionally lose count of the downs late in a football game, Brady is savvy when it comes to keeping track of how his money is spent. He’s getting the new Florida digs at $1 million less than the original listing price.

Derek Jeter’s place was super-spacious

Having signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after two decades with the New England Patriots, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady needed new living arrangements. Brady and his family originally settled into Derek Jeter’s fabulous Davis Islands mansion, seven miles from Raymond James Stadium.

Jeter’s waterfront complex, complete with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms,  checks in at 33,000 square feet, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Jeter finished construction in 2011, late in his Hall of Fame career with the New York Yankees. However, taking over operation of the Miami Marlins after becoming part owner in 2017 meant that he was spending most of his time in South Florida.

Whatever Jeter was charging Brady in rent, the six-time Super Bowl champion could easily afford it. Brady is the first season of a two-year, $50 million contract with the Buccaneers.

It looks like Tom Brady has a new house

After living in Derek Jeter’s mansion since moving to Tampa in the spring, Tom Brady, 43, and family are reported to be ready to close on a more practical abode across Old Tampa Bay.

According to TMZ, the Clearwater property inside a gated community and on the waterfront was listed at $8.5 million last year. The price was dropped to $7.5 million in August. Meanwhile, Jeter put his mansion up or sale for $29 million.

The home that Brady is eyeing is an older property. Realtor.com records show that it was last sold in 1998 for $465,000.  If the jump in price seems to have outpaced inflation by quite a bit, it may be because it underwent a full renovation in 2015 that included upgrades to withstand a category 4 hurricane.

The three-story home is about 8,400 square feet. It has five bedrooms – each with a bathroom — three additional half-baths, a private gym, a billiard room, and the requisite home theater.

Other nuggets from the property listing:

  • Glass, stone, quartz, and wood throughout the interior.
  • The master suite overlooks the water.
  • A custom-designed breakfast bar with a view of the water.
  • An elevator.
  • A dock with a 15-ton boat lift.

There is also an adjacent lot that was on the block for $1.45 million. The listing has been changed to “sale pending,” though it’s not known whether Brady is the buyer.

Tom Brady faces a first-world problem

Not all is going smoothly for Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen on the real estate front. Even though they’ve apparently found a dream home in Clearwater, there’s the matter of closing the books on their time in New England.

They still own a home in Brookline, Massachusetts. The 12,000-square-foot home on five acres went on the block in for $39.5 million. The price was dropped to $33.9 million but the home still didn’t move. With the pandemic putting a dent in the real estate market, the property was de-listed in May.

It presumably will be put back up for sale at a later date.
